i actually spoke with a few people from back then, but most of them don’t really care about playing anymore. they just see it as a dead game which is kind of sad honestly because we all know how much fun it used to be.

Oh yeah this wouldn't be something regular, just something one-time'ish or something!

OH MY GOD. I just messaged the person who owns the IP rights of SoF at the moment and look at that.

Had to google that name and combination - as I understand, she owns Soldier of Fortune magazine IP - I find it hard to understand how that also includes the game.

guy rebuilding SOF2 in Unreal Engine which is sick, he has pretty good progress already after months of work from what you can see

as I've understood, the development efforts of that have pretty much stopped unfortunately. I've been giving a thought on getting an open-source client engine working, will see if it will ever see the light of day.

as long as you don't spread the pk3 files around, they do not have the legal ground to block it. If you take e.g. JK or Q3 source code and make it run SoF2 files, then as long as you're not sharing the pk3 files of the game, you're not committing copyright infringement

This seems more like she's planning to release a new one, not necessarily revamp the old one. I don't believe that this is supposed to be a rework, rather a new game.

That 1fx vs. RPM fight was great. To be honest up until now, the original "feel" of the 2k3 mod including the server host and everything just felt different than 1fx, even though 1fx at the end was pretty much an extended 1:1 copy. Never knew why it felt that way. Not sure if it was the messages, the overall design, or w/e.

That is because of the frontend, we just were used to see 2k3servers.com in the wattermark up on connecting to the server and the colors of the messages were different.

The backend did not matter that much since like you mentioned 1fx was a copycat of 2k3.

So you want to make it happen on the 2k3mod?

Not sure what this has to do with the actual game itself, This sounds like a completely new game which would have nothing in common with the original SOF2. Only thing that will have in common is the name i guess...


It is better this way because SOF will never be SOF again even if ravensoftware or activsion w/e would make a new game.

I can just quickly list a few things that would suck ass:

1. They would put some sort of in-game purchase like every other games
2. all the files would be encrypted which means no easy modifications (sof2 is a heavily modded game)
3. SDK? there wouldn't be even a SDK, which means we would be forced to play on the mods that they provide.

Only thing that would make a "SOF2" game SOF2 would be if everything would be just as-is but with today's graphics, a better engine and bigger maps.

True. Microsoft and FireFly Studios also reworked their old games, so who knows, if ever.

Naja comu mein lieber will ja nix behaupten aber tüüüürlich frage ich mich gerade auch wie lange du noch so auf SoF2 gehyped sein wirst bevor du wieder verschwindest plötzlich hat dich die nostalgie jetzt gepackt aber wenn sie vergeht wirst du es auch tun
